How to Cook Beef Tip Roast
- 1). Remove the roast from the refrigerator about one hour before cooking, bringing it to room temperature. Adjust the oven racks so the roasting pan fits in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Rub the entire surface of the roast with your chosen spices. One tasty blend mixes smoky paprika, sea salt, fresh black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and basil or thyme. Let the seasoned roast sit for 15 minutes.
- 3). Put the roasting pan on your stove top over a medium flame. Add the olive oil. Turn the seasoned roast into the oil and fry it on all sides to seal the exterior of the meat. Sprinkle in Worcestershire sauce throughout this process until you've browned all sides.
- 4). Move the beef tip onto the roasting rack. Pour in the beef broth and cover. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness, 145 degrees Fahrenheit being medium rare, and 160 degrees Fahrenheit being medium. On average, it takes 30 minutes per pound to reach medium rare doneness.
- 5). Remove the roast from the pan and cover it with aluminum foil. Let the meat sit for 15 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain. Use that time to make gravy out of the drippings, if desired. Otherwise just serve au jus.
