    • 1). Measure the width of the window trim and add 4 inches. Cut a 1-by-4-inch board using a table saw to this length.

    • 2). Cut white sheet fabric 12 inches wide by the length of the board plus 4 inches. Place the white fabric on the worktable. Center the board over the fabric. Pull the top fabric over the board and staple every few inches. Pull the bottom fabric over the top fabric staples. Fold the edge under and staple every few inches along the length of the board. Fold the ends, bring them to the back and staple them. This is similar to wrapping a present. You are simply covering the board in white fabric.

    • 3). Place the hook side of hook-and-loop tape along the 1-inch side width, front and second side. Cut the tape with scissors. The tape is adhesive backed for fabric use. Place the board staple side up. Screw an L bracket 5 inches from the side, even with the back edge. The back edge does not have hook-and-loop tape on it. Repeat for the second L bracket. The L brackets should be facing upward during this step.

    • 4). Position the board so that the L brackets are facing downward. The bottom of the L bracket arm should touch the top of the window trim. Screw the L bracket into the wall using screws and a screw driver.

    • 5). Place the valance face down on the worktable. Press the adhesive back of the loop side of the hook-and-loop tape to the top edge of the valance. Attach the valance to the cornice board by starting at the back of one side and pressing the hook-and-loop tapes together.
