Ladybirds are also known as ladybugs, and these insects are known for their deep red shells that are polka-dotted with black. Not only are these insects useful in the garden, they also have high visual contrast, making them a perfect design theme for the nursery. A ladybird nursery theme will suit either a girl or a boy, so find a way to incorporate it into your nursery! - If you have round wooden knobs on your nursery's dresser drawers, you can change them into ladybirds with just a little bit of red and black acrylic paint. Paint a black line down the center of the doorknob and add a dab of black at one end of the line to represent the ladybird's head. Fill in the rest of the knob with red and spot it with black. This cheerful detail adds a small, whimsical touch to an otherwise plain room.
- Look for a glass or wooden ladybird charm to hang from your fan pull. The ladybird's round body will make a good choice for this task as it allows you to grasp the chain firmly, and it adds a little bit of color to the room. If it is made from glass or has been painted with metallic paint, it will also catch the light.
- If your nursery receives strong light at some point during the day, take advantage of it by hanging a ladybird sun catcher. A ladybird sun catcher can be made from red glass, which will send points of sparkling red light into the room when the sun hits it. When the sun comes through the window, it will also make the sun catcher glow.
- Choose a border from your local craft or home improvement store that features ladybirds on it, either as the main attraction or as a pretty red accent on flowers or leaves. A border is less overwhelming than a ladybird mural, and it gives the room some visual variety as to where the eye falls on the wall. Place the border at the ceiling or even at waist height so that you can see it clearly. Alternately, you can also choose to paint ladybirds on borders featuring leaves or flowers if you cannot find one specifically highlighting ladybirds.
