Fruit Centerpiece Ideas

    Edible Fruit Bouquet

    • It costs significantly more to buy an edible fruit bouquet than to make it yourself. You'll need a container, floral foam, bamboo skewers and an assortment of fruit. Pineapple, strawberries, grapes and melons work well for the bouquet. Cut the fruit in interesting shapes or leave them whole. Cut the pineapple into slices width wise to create circular slices. Use a flower-shaped cookie cutter to turn the pineapple slices into edible flowers. Slide the pineapple flowers on the end of a skewer, using a grape as the center of the flower. Thread several grapes and strawberries on the skewers to create accents for the pineapple flowers. Place the floral foam in the container, placing parsley leaves on top of the foam to represent flower leaves. Press the skewered fruit decorations into the floral foam to create the arrangement.

    Apple Candle Holders

    • Apples double as candle holders to create fruit centerpieces. Any variety of apple works for this craft idea. Use one kind of apple or a variety of colors and types of apples. Select apples with flat bottoms to prevent them from rolling around on the table. Use an apple corer to cut out a small hole in the top of each apple. Slide the base of a taper candle into the hole in the apple. Arrange any number of apple candle holders on the table, either in a row or scattered around the table.

    Floating Fruit Slices

    • Floating slices of fruit create a temporary fruit centerpiece, suitable for a dinner party. A glass bowl serves as the container for the centerpiece. Fill the glass bowl about three-quarters full of water. Slice several lemons, limes and oranges. Place the citrus fruit slices in the water. Add blueberries, raspberries or other berries to add a punch of color to the creation. Floating candles in fruit shapes offer an additional garnish to this fruit centerpiece.

    Jar of Fruit

    • A jar of fruit offers a twist on the traditional bowl of fruit. It also works as a holder for silk flowers. A large mason jar or glass vase works well as the container for the fruit centerpiece. Select colorful fruits that last for several days, such as lemons, limes or apples. Fill the glass container with the fruit, filling it nearly to the top. Tuck the stems of silk flowers amidst the fruit, allowing the flowers to stand above the jar. Consider using cherry blossoms to tie in the fruit theme. A coordinating ribbon tied around the jar adds a finishing touch to the centerpiece.

    Fruit Sculpture

    • A fruit sculpture allows your artistic side to take center stage. Pineapples and melons work well as the base of the fruit sculpture. Skewers poked into the pineapple provide holders for hors d'oeuvres or flower buds. Place the hors d'oeuvres or flowers on one end of the skewer, and press the other end into the pineapple. Melons transform into artwork when images are carved into their rinds. Use a knife or toothpick to draw the outline of the image. Carve away the rind inside of the outline, being careful not to carve completely into the fruit. Melons can also be cut into a fruit basket for display purposes.
