How to Make a Baptismal Font
- 1). Choose the size, style and shape of the font to create, considering the layout of the church and the types of ceremonies performed there. Decide where to locate the font before you move on to purchasing your framework.
- 2). Select a framework for your font. Take into consideration that the most common styles are simplistic circular or octagonal ones. Whichever shape and size you choose, it has to have a gap at the top to place the basin, and be smaller at the base than the structure you are planning to put the font atop.
- 3). Place your bowl inside the support framework. Stainless steel is most often used, and may be your best option, because it does not corrode when used with water and it is relatively easy to clean.
- 4). Decorate the font with any symbols that you feel would be appropriate. You will notice that many baptism fonts have crosses, moons or stars. This will give your final construction more character.
