How to Decalcify a GE Gas Water Heater
- 1). Turn off the gas on the water heater's thermostat or at the shut-off valve. The thermostat should have an "Off" setting. Turn the shut-off valve the opposite way that it's currently set until it won't turn any further.
- 2). Turn the water heater's cold water valve the opposite way that it's set until it won't turn any more.
- 3). Tighten a water hose to the end of the drain valve and place the hose in a drain.
- 4). Open the relief valve by flipping up the release lever to drain the water.
- 5). Allow at least 2 quarts of water to flush from the water heater to remove any calcium deposits.
