How to Strip Paint Off Wood Siding
- 1). Cover the ground with canvas drop cloths.
- 2). Protect yourself from fume inhalation by wearing a respirator.
- 3). Scrape as much loose paint from the siding as you can, using a pull scraper. Don't be overaggressive. Merely remove loose fragments of paint.
- 4). Fill a 1-gallon painter's pot halfway with solvent-based paint stripper. Apply solvent to a 2-foot-by-2-foot portion of siding. Wait until the paint bubbles or wrinkles. Scrape the paint from the siding, using a putty knife and/or a molding scraper. Repeat until all of the paint has been removed. Continue until all of the siding is free from paint.
- 5). Dampen a nylon scrub pad with mineral spirits. Remove any residue from the siding, using a scrub pad.
