If you have been doing research about beer brewing kits and checking out the online beer sites you have probably noticed that most of the starter beer making kits supply you with food grade plastic brewing containers.
Then, when you go to the store all the beer is in either glass or aluminum.
Does that mean that the beer kits are wrong and we should not use the plastic bottles? Well, not really.
The first thing you should look at it is how long you are going to be storing your beer.
If you plan is to store your beer outside of individual bottle for a long period of time then glass is better than plastic.
The reason for this is that air is the enemy of beer for a number of reason and you want to keep air out of the beer during the storing process and glass is better than plastic for longer term storage.

Over time, plastic is more likely to let air get into your brew.
But this takes a great deal of time and most of us will have finished off our brew long before there is any real risk of contamination.
Just be sure that the seal is tight and you won't have any problems.
On the other hand, the problem with glass is that you risk it breaking if it isn't handled properly.
The last thing you want to happen is for your prized brew to end up in puddles on the floor because your glass bottle shattered! Regardless whether you use glass or plastic, it is absolutely necessary to make sure that your container has been thoroughly cleaned and properly sanitized.
If you are not careful in the cleaning process it is possible to leave bacteria on the surfaces and they will certainly destroy your batch.
So take extra care that all your brewing equipment is clean and sanitized at all times.
