Access

• Position your safe according to a compromise between two values: keeping it out of the way and yet making it easy to access when you want to. Closets and storage areas make good candidates for this compromise, as does beneath a desk or table you don't intend to move.
  
  

Components

• When you set your safe down where you think you want it, open the door and swing it wide. Make sure its position won't hamper your ability to open it. Likewise, reach into the safe and touch the top and bottom rear corners to make sure the safe's position doesn't make it difficult to reach those points.
  
  

Flooring

• The floor beneath your safe is as important as the safe itself to keeping your valuables safe. The most secure mounting will be in concrete, followed by floor joists, followed by floor paneling. This factor is not as important as the first two -- thieves with the time and dedication to actually tear out and carry your safe are likely to get to your valuables anyway.
