4 Great And Cheap Ways To Secure Your Home

103 203
Once you have spent money on a new home and filled it full of all your prized possessions, you will no doubt be keen to keep everything safe.
However, since you've spent all you money on TV's and trellising, there may be little left to pay for a proper security system.
Here are a few low cost options which should help you make your home more secure.
Activate Your Local Area If your area has a neighbourhood watch, join it and take advantage of a network of keen eyed curtain rufflers who will be on the phone to the police after seeing the postman lingering at your mailbox, faster than any security system known to man.
Doing this will also help you get to know and trust your neighbours so you don't think any of them are stealing your radishes.
Dog Get a big scary dog.
Go to your local dog rescue centre and get the biggest and most fearsome looking one you can.
Or better yet, a whole pack of terriers.
You don't need to pay for them as it is a rescue and if you get a lot of prowlers at night you may not need to feed them too much either.
Glass Make sure all your double glazing is fitted properly and all your window locks are working.
Usually when you buy UPVC windows or conservatories the company will offer you a guarantee over a certain period of time.
This means that if you are within that period you can just let them know and they are obliged to come out to your house and fix or replace anything you find that is a detriment to you home security.
Secure Your Weak Points You may also want to look out for any vulnerable points in your home where a burglar or home invader might try to gain access.
These points might include: an attic which you share with a neighbour.
If you trust your neighbour fair enough, but if you don't know them, you may want to think about placing a good solid lock on your loft access hatch.
Conservatories are notorious access points for criminals, so see 'Glass' section above.
Front door locks of a certain type are incredibly easy to open without a key.
This is done with just a credit card or thin screwdriver to jam between the door and the frame to push the lock open.
A simple cheap lock protector strip should prevent this happening.
See easy and cheap, be safe and don't have nightmares.
