Children are precious little humans. It is an incredible feat to watch them grow, learn, and experience the wonders of the world. Adults often look at them with envious eyes; if only to see the world the way they do. Their nave outlook on life is what adults dream to have and long to remember. A childs home is only as safe as his or her parent or parents make it. It is of the utmost importance for parents to ensure a secure place to live by taking measures to prevent household accidents as part of their home security system.

Potential dangers exist throughout the house. Parents should always be on the lookout for ways to enhance security in the home. Considerations regarding safety in the home include water safety, falls, fires, poisoning, and hot objects.

First is water safety and preventable drowning. A baby can potentially drown in only an inch of water. In order to help prevent drowning, children should always be under adult supervision when around water. Water sources range from anything from a bathtub and pool to even a bucket or toilet. If it has water in it, then children and especially young children and toddlers should always be 100% supervised.

Parents should start investing in home safety for preventing falls even before their child starts to walk. It often seems that once children become mobile they are almost impossible to stop. In just the blink of an eye, a parent can lose track of their child, even in your own home. Therefore, parents need to take preventative measures against accidental falls by installing safety gates and rails as part of their home security. In addition, children should be discouraged to climb on furniture or counters indoors and to leave their climbing to outdoor playgrounds.

Fire safety is among the basic components of a home security plan. Beginning at an early age, children are lectured and taught about fire safety. Along with teaching a child about the importance of stay away from playing with fire and lighting matches, children should also be taught about what to do in case of a fire. Parents need to remind them to always stay low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation, and families should always create a fire escape plan to be practiced by all family members.

Once children become mobile, precautions need to be taken regarding locking up certain cabinets and drawers. This especially includes those areas of the house containing chemicals such as household cleaning supplies. If consumed, then it is like drinking poison to a small child. Young children often dont know any better, and many household accidents have been called by accidental consumption. As part of your home security, always keep these products locked up and have a number readily available to contact the local poison control.

The difference between hot and cold is one of the first comparable facts children learn. Even at a very early age, they are able to identify what is hot and what is cold, often at first using foods. Thus, children understand the potential danger and harmful effect of very hot things, when a hot food burns their tongue or mouth. Boiling water, hot tea and coffee, and hot stoves can all become very dangerous around small children. Remember to keep hot liquids and objects out of the reach of small hands, and also constantly lecture about safety in the kitchen, especially regarding hot stoves and ovens. Creating a safe environment for your child to live in should be a main concern of any parent, so always remember these safety tips as part of your home security system.
