The truth is, having a beer belly can be both embarrassing and frustrating. It can severely affect anybody's self-esteem. Being lean and fit is certainly a confidence booster. With some motivation and effort on your part to change your diet and start exercising you can soon be on your way to that firm flat belly you always wanted.

1. Lean cuts of meat such as those of poultry and fish are rich sources of protein. Since proteins take a longer time to digest than do carbohydrates, consuming these makes for a great choice as part of your diet to lose stomach fat fast. In fact, foods such as salmon and tuna are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, that help in achieving a flat stomach.

2. Stay away from unhealthy junk food and fast food. Greasy, fatty and sugary foods are often loaded with calories and saturated fat. The excess fat that enters your body from such foods is often stored in the belly and thighs. Making good decisions, such as choosing grilled foods over fried foods and healthy snacks over junk food, will decrease the amount of fat that enters your body and stop drooping belly fat from increasing.

3. Stop making excuses for yourself about why you don't have time eat healthy or start exercising. Spend more time planning your workout schedule and a healthy eating plan.

All nuts and seeds should be consumed unsalted, though they may be lightly roasted for added flavor.

6. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables high in vitamins and fiber into your diet. Replacing unhealthy foods with fruits and vegetables will help decrease the amount of fat that forms around the belly. The fiber inside fruits and vegetables will promote a healthy digestive system and in turn help reduce unwanted belly fat. Consider taking vitamin and fiber supplements on top of a healthy diet.

7. We all know that water isn't the best tasting drink i the world, but it does flush out your system and promotes a flat stomach. The next time you are thinking about popping that top on a cold soda, grab water instead. You should be drinking anywhere from 6 to 8 glasses everyday.

8. Stress along with bad diet is the leading cause of weight gain in the west. We stress about our jobs, finances, kids, spouse, our weight and everything in between. You need some alone time, some down time and proper stress management, like planning ahead, writing down your schedule for the week and so on.
