Causes for One-Sided Abdominal Pain
- Pain on the right side of the abdomen may be a sign of appendicitis. It is one of the most common causes for right-side abdominal pain and requires immediate emergency care to prevent the appendix from rupturing.
- The gall bladder also causes pain on the right side of the abdomen. A trapped gall stone or an infection of the gall bladder are two common gall bladder illnesses.
- Trapped gas and constipation can cause pain on either side of the abdomen. A change in bowel movements can signal constipation.
- A stomach ulcer can cause pain on either side of the abdomen. The burning of an ulcer can be mistaken for heartburn or indigestion.
- Abdominal pain in women is often related to the reproductive organs. Pain on one side of the abdomen can be caused by menstrual pain, pelvic inflammatory disease, an ectopic pregnancy or even a miscarriage.
