Do you suffer from heartburn? Anyone suffering from heartburn needs have a special acid reflux diet. You need to know what foods are safe to eat and those foods that should be avoided. Also, the way you prepare your foods is important. Tips are given and heartburn-friendly ingredients are included in heartburn-free recipes. It may also be helpful for you to have suggestions for meals that are heartburn-friendly.

Foods that are safe for you to eat when you suffer from heartburn

There are some foods that have little or no potential for causing heartburn. The foods listed in the Safe Foods Table are the most common foods that are usually pretty safe for heartburn sufferers to eat. This is by no means a complete list, and in your personal situation, you may either find you can eat the foods from the "Avoid" group with no problem or have problems with foods listed as safe foods.

It is a good idea to keep a Food Diary. For approximately two weeks, write down what you eat, when you eat and any symptoms you may experience. This will give you a better idea of what your safe foods are.

Foods you may eat in moderation when you suffer from heartburn

There are some foods that can be consumed with discretion, foods that you may be able to enjoy occasionally. The foods listed in the Moderation Foods Table are the most common foods that can be eaten in moderation. These are the foods that are usually tolerated fairly well by heartburn sufferers if they are eaten only occasionally and in small amounts. They may, however, trigger heartburn if they are consumed frequently or in large amounts at a time.

You may find in your personal situation that you can eat some of the foods from this list with no problems, or you may find that you have to avoid certain foods on this list entirely. It may be a good idea to keep a Food Diary. This will give you a better idea of what your safe foods are, what foods you should avoid, and what foods you can enjoy occasionally.
