Personal Fall Protection Safety Tips
- The Occupational Health and Safety Association suggests making sure to check ladder steps for slippery substances prior to starting your climb. Never stand on the top step of a stepladder.
- If something is out of reach then either get up to retrieve the item as opposed to reaching across a long distance, use a telescoping grabber to grab the item or use a stepladder or step stool.
- Avoid running up or down stairways. Make sure any carpeting put on a stairway is anchored securely to avoid slipping. Always use the hand rail when going up or down stairs.
- If a home is properly lit then the possibility of tripping over an item, or falling due to a missed step, is greatly decreased. Make sure your home offers adequate lighting and always turn on lights in rooms you will be walking in.
- Even if you are capable of carrying a large object yourself, always have a second person available to guide you to your destination safely. Carrying an object that obstructs your view is a two-person job.
