How to Grow a Celosia From Seeds
- 1). Fill a 2-inch-deep nursery flat to within 1/4 inch of the top with sterile seedling compost. Spray the compost heavily with a water-filled spray bottle until it feels saturated throughout.
- 2). Arrange the celosia seeds across the top of the seedling compost. Place one seed per square inch to provide the young seedlings with adequate room to grow.
- 3). Spread a 1/8-inch-thick layer of seedling compost over the celosia seeds. Mist the compost well with water to settle it around the seeds.
- 4). Apply bottom heat to the celosia seeds using a propagation mat. Set the temperature on the propagation mat to 70 F. Maintain warmth at that level during the germination process.
- 5). Mist the celosia seeds with water every other day so the seedling compost stays moist at a depth of 1/4 inch at all times.
- 6). Watch for germination in two weeks, but don't be worried if it takes three to four weeks for some of the seeds to sprout.
- 7). Transplant the celosia seedlings into 3-inch starter pots filled with potting soil once they develop two or more "true" leaves, which have a pointed shape and bluish-green coloration with a subtle blush of pink at the base.
- 8). Keep the potted celosia seedlings in a warm, bright place until one week after the last frost in spring, then plant them in a sunny bed with fertile soil.
