How Can I Reduce Glare on My Sliding Doors So the Birds Don't Fly Into Them?
- 1). Use window shades and blinds to cut down on the glare. Even open window blinds are a deterrent if they are in a tilted position along the length of the window.
- 2). Hang decorative window films on your sliding glass doors. They are available in many styles and colors, including seasonal decorations. Another idea is to place vertical strips of tape at least 1 inch wide on the outside of the glass doors at 4-inch intervals. You also can hang colorful ribbon.
- 3). Position houseplants and large ornamental potted plants away from the glass doors on the inside of your home. Plants mimic the look of the outdoors and can fool birds into crashing into the glass. You can place plants on the outside of the sliding glass doors.
- 4). Move bird feeders and bird houses away from the sliding glass doors.
- 5). Draw your curtains over the sliding glass doors during the daytime hours. This helps save money on your utility bills as well, since the sunlight does not heat your home.
- 6). Build a physical barrier over the sliding glass doors by placing fine-mesh netting into a rigid frame. Mount the barrier at least 2 inches away from the windows with steel brackets.
