How to Attach a Post-Style Snap Button

104 21
    • 1). Mark the interior fabric where you want to attach the post of the snap. Mark outer or exterior fabric where the snap socket should go. The socket is the flat half of the snap, with a small hole for accepting the post side.

    • 2). Position one of the fabric markings on top of a self-healing cutting pad and place a fabric punch on top of the mark. Push the punch down to puncture the fabric and create a hole for the posts.

    • 3). Slide a snap post piece under the fabric and push the protrusion up through the hole you punched. Place a post stud on top of the fabric, directly above the post sticking up from below.

    • 4). Place the snap setting tool on top of the stud. Tap it three or four times with a mallet. Use a firm, even strike of the mallet to force the snap pieces together.

    • 5). Move the snapped fabric away and place the second marking on the cutting pad. The outermost side of the fabric should be facing down, against the cutting pad. Make a hole at the mark in the same way as you did before.

    • 6). Slide a capped post piece under the fabric and push the post up through the fabric. Position a socket piece on top of the stud and bang it in place using the setting tool and mallet. The capped post is the side of the snap that will be visible from the outside of the garment.
