How to Make Decoupage Metal Photo Stars
- 1). Cut a triangle-shaped template by tracing one side of a metal star point (they have two sides that meet at an angled peak in the center of the start point) onto a piece of poster board, or measure one side of the point and transfer the measurements to the poster board and cut it out.
- 2). Trace the template onto scrapbook paper, making 10 traced figures in total and then cut them out. Lay out the pieces into piles of two to create five pairs of paper pieces. One pair will go onto one star point. The long sides of the paper will meet up at the angled peak of the center of each star point.
- 3). Cut out one piece of clear plastic, using the template as a guide. Cut the plastic triangle into two smaller triangles by bisecting the triangle at the center point. Place the clear plastic template onto a photo and use it as a guide to cut the photo to size. Use one of the two plastic triangles, depending on where you wish to position the photo on the star. Cut one photo per side of each star point, or two photos per star point.
- 4). Arrange the photos and scrapbook paper in the pattern you are going to decoupage them onto the metal star on your workspace. Pour water into a small cup. Dip the foam brush into water and then into the decoupage paste. Brush the paste onto the metal star in a smooth even layer, starting at the center and working your way out to the edges of the star points. Set scrapbook paper pieces down onto the star, with the sides of the paper matching the sides of the star.
- 5). Paint on another layer of decoupage paste and place the cut out photos on top of the scrapbook paper in the positions that you want them. Use a damp cloth to wipe off excess paste from the edges of the paper or photos. Smooth down the paper onto the surface of the star with your hands or a straight edged ruler.
- 6). Spray on an even layer of craft glaze. Let the decoupage metal star sit and cure for four days before handling it.
