How to Paint Porcelain Clock Dials
- 1). Wipe the porcelain clock dial clean of dirt and other debris. If the clock is bare with no design, or you do not mind if some of the detail is removed, used a cleaning detergent and water. However, if you want to keep the detail removal to a minimum, stick with water.
- 2). Take a high grit sandpaper and remove the details that you want to paint over. The finer the grit, the better. This is just to remove the gloss of the porcelain dial.
- 3). Remove the porcelain specks with a damp rag and dry thoroughly.
- 4). Paint the area you want to cover with bonding primer. Bonding primer adheres properly to porcelain while standard wall primer does not. Allow several hours for the primer to dry.
- 5). Use your brush and apply a satin sheen paint onto the porcelain clock dial. Satin sheen offers a slight reflective properly, while full gloss reflects more light. If the satin sheen is too dull, you can apply the full gloss paint on the porcelain dial.
