Five Key Home Security Tips for Memphis Memorabilia Collectors

101 14
Memphis, Tennessee is well-known as a haven for memorabilia collectors.  Many of the city's residents have been inspired by the "King of Rock and Roll's" home, Graceland, or by nearby Nashville, which is also known for its incredible music scene.  In both cases, there is plenty of great music history in the area, and many residents want to feel like they are a part of it by collecting various instruments, records, posters, tickets, autographs, photos and other items.  All of these items can be worth quite a lot, which is why so many memorabilia owners go to great lengths to try to protect their investments, but all too often, people underestimate the kind of safety measures they should take to keep their possessions safe.  Here are a few important home security measures that Memphis memorabilia collectors should take in order to make sure they can continue enjoying their collections for a long time.

5. Try to be careful about who knows what valuable items you own.  If you own memorabilia that has been valued at high prices, then make sure you don't run around telling everyone where you store that memorabilia.  It's impossible to always predict accurately what someone's motives may be, and you may accidently inform a thief about how they can steal your precious memorabilia from you.  Try to be modest and quiet about your investments in order to keep your home security risks low.

4.  Rely on a home alarm system to secure your property.  If you have motion detection sensors installed around your house, you'll be able to tell if anyone is sneaking around when they shouldn't be.  When your alarm gets triggered by any potential thieves, private security forces will be notified so they can instantly respond to help protect your investments.  You should also consider adding an optional video surveillance system, which can help you identify and capture any thieves if they somehow manage to steal from you.

3. If you own a small item that could be damaged by a fire, make sure you keep it in a fire-proof safe in your house or in a safety deposit box at a bank.  Fires break out unexpectedly in homes all the time, which means that your memorabilia is at risk if it is flammable (as most things are).  Make sure you also have good fire alarms installed, which may come as part of the overall home alarm system you install.

2. If you want to display the memorabilia in your home, try to store it in a glass case that can be locked.  Use thick glass, or even fiberglass, to ensure that the case cannot be easily broken.  Keep a fire extinguisher near the case as an extra home security measure since glass cases are not fireproof.

1. Consider keeping the original items you have purchased locked up, and display replica items instead.  If you keep replica items on display, most people will not be able to tell the difference, and you will be able to ensure that the original items are well secured in another location.
