Can Tupperware Be Recycled?
- Tupperware currently manufactures products made with #4-LDPE, #5-PP, and #7-Other plastics. Unmarked Tupperware products can be found by name on their website, which has a recycling code list.
- Recyclers generally accept items that have the highest resale value to manufacturers, which depends on location, logistics and the local or national recycled material market. For example, some recycling programs accept all #1, #2, and #5 plastics, while some accept plastic containers but not plastic lids.
- Local recycling plants can give information on which Tupperware containers they will accept for recycling. Nonrecyclable items can cause problems at the recycling plants.
- Tupperware products have a lifetime warranty "against chipping, cracking, breaking or peeling under normal non-commercial use." Damaged Tupperware products could be returned for replacement, rather than be recycled.
- Sometimes the brand name Tupperware is incorrectly used to describe other brands of reusable containers, which also may or may not be recyclable in your area.
