How to Keep Hot Tamales in a Buffet
If you are a party organizer, you would know how important it is to keep hot tamales, so that the guests will get impressed by how well you keep your food. However, it is not always an easy feat. Most people find it very hard to make sure that the tamales are served hot and moist. Although it is easy to reheat tamales, ovens and other reheating tools can dry the tamales. This won't bode well for guests who would like to taste an authentic and moist tamales. As a party host, you must always make sure that the tamales you are serving are hot and fresh from the stove.
Use a chaffing dish
A chaffing dish is used mostly to keep the food warm on buffet tables. You are quite familiar with a chaffing dish because you can see them in formal parties and hotel buffets. This is an aluminum dish with an aluminum cover and a boiler below. The fire below the dish keeps the food ward. The problem with a chaffing dish is that people sometimes find the food is being dried by the direct fire from the boiler below. This should not be the case when you want to serve hot tamales. To make sure that the tamales are warm, put another dish in between the tamales and the first pan where the food should be.
Just like a double boiler, this will keep the food warm and moist. A dish in between the main tray and the lid will make sure that the tamales will not get dry.
If you don't have a chaffing dish, you can just rent one from a party supply store. A supply dish is actually quite cheap, so you shouldn't worry about how much it can cost you. It would also be good if you can invest on a couple of chaffing dishes, especially if you regularly hold parties at your home or office.
Make use of a crockpot or a rice cooker
Of course, you cannot let the tamales sit in hot water just to make sure that they are warm. It would ruin the texture of the hot tamales. When reheating or maintaining the warmth of the tamales, you should make sure that they are steamed and not soaked in water. You can make use of a crockpot or a rice cooker by putting it on warm setting.
Put water to boil in the bottom of the crockpot or rice cooker and another dish on top of it. You can then place the tamales on the top dish. This process will keep the tamales warm and moist as well. If you have a nice-looking crockpot or rice cooker, you can even put it on the buffet table.
It is important that you serve the tamales steaming hot or at least warm. Cold tamales will take off the excitement and surprise of tasting how delicious they are.
