Look Better, Feel Better
According to an old adage, a healthy body houses a healthy mind.
If we feel and look good on the outside, we automatically also feel good on the inside.
This causal relationship between physical health on one hand and psychological and mental health on the other is further strengthened when people are praised or complimented on how they look.
Being active Staying active, amongst others by exercising, not only assists weight loss and the toning of muscles, but also assists in warding off illnesses, which in turn makes us feel healthier.
There are many forms of exercise and some types, like walking, are for free! Once more, depending on present weight and fitness levels (and subject to health care advice), between 30 and 90 minutes of exercise per day is recommended.
However, this must be supported by a balanced and healthy diet.
Right Diet Eating right entails limiting the intake of foods that are rich in salt, fats and carbohydrates.
A healthy diet includes fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cereals, fish, lean meat, chicken, potatoes, and dairy products.
Eating right also means eating moderate portions of food at the right times and having no snacks in-between.
Where weight loss is sought, it is important not to consume more calories than that which we can burn off through physical activity.
Remember, augmenting healthy eating habits combined with regular exercise will make you look and feel better, helping to ward-off many health related problems.
Looking after your health and body is not restricted to diet and exercise.
It also entails attending to numerous other aspects, like changing your hairstyle (and/or hair color), having a manicure and pedicure or visiting the podiatrist to have your feet taken care of to give you reason to feel good.
It is important to consider that the coming together of all these other things can go a long way in making you feel better on the outside, and inevitably also on the inside.
Mental health One's mental health and the thoughts that one harbor can have a huge influence on how one feels on the inside and outside.
It is important to note that looking and feeling good on the outside raises the inner sprits and that raised inner spirits inevitably also impacts on how one looks and feels on the outside.
Negative thoughts whittle away as one's self-esteem, self-worth and confidence improves.
Daily affirmations can counter this negative spiral and boosts one's self-esteem, self-worth and confidence to tackle the world, daily chores and problems.
It is therefore clear that if all of the above can come together, it will make one a healthier and happier person who looks good on the outside, oozing with self-confidence,healthier and fitter on the inside with an improved outlook on life and the emotional energy to better cope with life in general.
