The Biochemistry of Overtraining in Bodybuilding

After the body engages in training exercises of very high intensity, a lot of cortisol is bumped out by the body.
As cortisol is being bumped out, it breaks down proteins into amino acids which are taken to the liver in order to be converted into glucose.
As the workout progresses, more cortisol gets generated and more proteins are destroyed.
As this continues, a catabolic state occurs.
Cortisol goes firs ad foremost into the muscles.
The immune system is strongly dependent on the proteins.
When training goes on and on, the stores become depleted.
When tendons lose too mush proteins, they lose their structural characteristics and this is where problems begin.
Cortisol can be referred to as a survival drug for the body.
Its role is to take proteins into the liver.
This protein is the converted into energy for use during anaerobic training.
It works as a defense mechanism tool for the body.
Imagine there was no mechanism of getting back to stored protein reserves.
The body would easily get inadequate supply of proteins leading to instability in terms of the chemical balancing and this would cause illness.
This is the same case when one trains too much that overtraining takes toll on the schedule.
When an athlete engages in a very strenuous exercise, his cortisol levels go up by about 60%.
There is a biological mix which kind of steals the body of vital cortisol balances leading to a condition called overtraining.
It does not matter that you may be having so much energy in your body.
The muscles will always be overwhelmed by a rate of conversion which is too high.
If the body can not handle this high rate of conversion, signs of overtraining set in.

In fact the chances of you contracting these health conditions double when cortisol production reaches record high levels.
The big question here is whether the rate of cortisol production correlates with the likelihood of illness.
Of course the answer according to the ongoing research indicates that the answer is yes.
But then, how do illnesses come? The issue here is about the body's preparedness to handle the chemical changes occasioned by this additional cortisol.
There are many proteins of defense in the body and these are in the forms of antibodies.
These antibodies are forms of proteins and since proteins are immensely converted during bodybuilding overtraining, this leads to the scenario where people especially athletes and bodybuilders train themselves into cold, flu and all manner of viral attacks.
In order to avoid overtraining, make sure that high intensity training sessions don't exceed one hour.
If possible, make this duration even shorter such that less proteins are destroyed.
Carbohydrates are the primary way of ensuring sustainability during intensity training.
When you have enough of these nutrients, the body will only have to defend itself by producing any cortisol.
Remember cortisol is used to convert proteins into glucose.
There is need for the bodybuilder to ensure that at least 70% of his total dietary intake is in the form of proteins.
