Shayna Smith, a young figure skater from Massachusetts, was surprised at her Bat Mitzvah in October of 2013 with a very special music video that honored her accomplishments as a figure skater. Her parents, family, and friends put together an incredibly amusing and original video that sums up the life of a serious competitive figure skater and synchronized skater.

About the Video:

In this entertaining music video, the life and dedication of a young figure skater is summarized in a parody of the "G-Rated" version of the music video "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, featuring Wanz.  Shayna's father, Michael Smith, carefully directed the video to match the original video.  He wears the same coat seen in the original "Thrift Shop" video, rides a scooter, and does the narration and rap-like singing.  Other "characters" (Shayna's friends and family) wear similar costumes and do the same movements that are in the original "Thrift Shop" video.

A Young Figure Skater's Life Summed Up In a Fun Way:

Details of a figure skaters life are highlighted throughout the video.  Some of the ice skating terminology included in Shayna's special video are listed below.

How the Video Was Produced:

Plans for Shayna's surprise figure skating Bat Mitzvah music video began in May of 2013.

In August of 2013, the "cast" (friends and family) came together for three days to film the production while Shayna was away at camp.

Most of the filming of the video was done at the North Star Youth Forum Ice Skating Facility in Westborough, Massachusetts.  Michael Smith wrote the entire script and lyrics and then organized and directed the filming of the video through Northern Lights Entertainment.  Shayna's mother, Sue, provided her husband with the names of figure skating terms, moves, clothing, and equipment which he carefully included in the video's script.

The skaters, coaches, and parents involved with the video's production kept this special video a secret from Shayna and surprised her with the video at the party that followed her Bat Mitzvah ceremony on Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Shayna's Reaction:

When Shayna saw the video at her Bat Mitvah party, she reacted with an "open mouth" and with the following statements:

"Who filmed this? And how did you do that?"
