While the economy has taken a dive, the rate of obesity is on the rise. In a nation where workaholics dominate, Americans are more stressful, sleep deprived and strapped for time than ever before. Where we once saw the importance of a nutritious meal and regular exercise, we now see the convenience of a fast food outlet and zero time to work off our unsightly midsections.

With obesity linked to such things as heart disease, diabetes, stroke, early death and even age-related dementia, we are forced to do something about our health and find ways to lose belly fat. Studies show that abdominal fat can be stress related due to the hormone Cortisol, which is released during stress. High levels of this hormone in the body, appears to stimulate the storage of fat around the belly region. Although there are proven ways to lose belly fat, it is essential to find one that you can adapt into your life style and embrace in all areas. It is vital to its success that you commit yourself to your lifestyle change long term, or you will see yourself yo-yo-ing in and out of something you will most likely give up on.

To begin with, a healthy weight loss diet full of fruits vegetables and whole grains will get your body burning extra calories on its own. Steer clear of excess sugar in drinks and try to avoid snacking on high calorie store bought products. Keep a record of your calorie intake and try to combine it with exercises including aerobic workouts such as walking (fast paced), jogging, bike riding, hiking and swimming. Aerobic workouts are fun social ways to lose belly fat.

To help strengthen your abdominal muscles try a stomach toning work out like Yoga, Pilates or even stomach crunches. This may take some time, but you are eliminating your excess fat stores and preventing any more from setting up camp there. Persevere and you most assuredly will see results.

Unfortunately there are no easy ways to lose belly fat, and no cut corner ways to a slimmer leaner body. It all takes time and effort, patience and perseverance. While a life style change will be hard, living with the excess weight is harder. A diet rich in natural vitamins and minerals has more rewards than just a flatter stomach and leaner body. It has the ability to give you a better sleep and lower your stress levels too.
