Bible Games to Play

104 33
    • Games can be an excellent tool for teaching and reinforcing biblical concepts. Children enjoy learning and usually retain more when they are actively engaged and having fun. You can use Bible games to liven up your Sunday School class, children's group or youth group on a regular basis.

    Scene Situation

    • Scene Situation uses acting to reinforce stories and characters from the Bible. Prepare a deck of index cards, each with an event or character on one side of the card. Turn the cards over and shuffle them. Ask for a volunteer and have a student draw a card from the deck. The student can decide to act out the scene alone or can call for a certain number of volunteers to assist him. The children then create a "still frame" that represents what was written on the card. The actors cannot talk and must "freeze" in a picture rather than actively performing charades. The other members of the group take turns guessing what's being acted out, and the person who guesses correctly gets to begin the next scene.

    Bible Scavenger Hunt

    • Bible Scavenger Hunt helps children become better equipped at finding topics, people and events in the Bible. Create a scavenger hunt list of items that must be found in the Bible. Include items such as "Find a verse that mentions King David," "Find a book that lists the Ten Commandments" or "Which is the shortest book of the Bible?" Divide your group into teams. The teams must answer as many items on the list as possible. Once the children are finished or the time limit has expired, discuss the correct answers and see which team got the most correct answers.

    Bible Verse Race

    • Bible Verse Race is a good way to help kids remember verses they have been studying. Print various Bible verses on a whiteboard or similar large type of display. Divide the group into two teams, lining each team up in single-file fashion. Give the first member of each team a fly swatter. Call out a Bible verse reference (book, chapter and verse) that matches one of the verses printed on the board. When you say "go," the two opposing team members must race to the board and try to be the first to swat the verse that correctly matches the reference. Whoever swats the verse first gets to read it aloud and earns a point for her team. The first two players hand the fly swatters to the next two players in line and move to the back of the line.
