How to Make a Hawthorne Tincture
- 1). Pick fresh hawthorne and clean it thoroughly. Remove any damaged parts.
- 2). Chop the roots, leaves and stems into very small pieces. You don't need to chop the flowers.
- 3). Put the flowers and chopped roots, leaves and stems in a clean glass jar.
- 4). Fill the jar with 100-proof vodka and seal with an airtight lid. Make sure the lid is tightly closed, as air will spoil the mixture.
- 5). Label the jar, including the date and the ingredients.
- 6). Put the jar in a dark spot for six to eight weeks. Shake it gently from time to time.
- 7). Strain out the flowers, roots, leaves and stems and pour the tincture into a clean, dry bottle.
- 8). Label the new bottle with the tincture name, the date it was made and the ingredients you used.
