Former Eagles take part in Wounded Warriors game
Ike Reese and Jon Runyan were back on the playing field Saturday afternoon.
The two were just a few of the former Philadelphia Eagles players and ex-NFL stars who participated in the Wounded Warriors game at the Wells Fargo Center.
Two of the all-time leading receivers in Eagles history, Mike Quick and Harold Carmichael, were on the sidelines along with Philadelphia Soul owner, Ron Jaworski, and Soul co-owner and New Orleans Saints receiver, Marques Colston.
Others who were involved in the game included recently retired radio host, Tony Bruno, ESPN’s Kenny Mayne and former Eagles quarterback, Joe Pisarcik.
While the former players and media members were much appreciated, the real headline of the event were the dozen Wounded Warriors who played in the game.
“As much as you see pictures of guys who come back from the war, it’s different when you get to touch them and have an opportunity to talk with them," Quick said following the game. “You do start to feel a little deeper for them and the things they’ve gone through.
“They are true American heroes. They call ball players heros, but these are the true American heroes.”
Quick admitted it’s always nice to get to see some ex-teammates and guys he’s watched in the pros.
“It‘’s fun,” Quick noted. “We get to do things from time to time and it’s real cool. It’s even nicer to have it an atmosphere like this this where you’re showing some love to heroes.”
