How to Arrange Your Sleeping Room
- 1). Decide where to place your bed. Many people place it on the far side of the room as you walk in the door so the bed is the center and focal point of the room. This works well, especially if you have an attractive headboard you want to show off. However, a bed can be placed outward on another long wall, diagonally in a corner or in another strategic location where it doesn't obstruct opening a closet door fully or isn't against a window you plan to open frequently.
- 2). Place your bedside tables next to the bed. If there isn't space, you might need to move your bed to a wall with more room. Bedside tables are handy for alarm clocks, drinks, remotes and books. If your bedside tables are under a window, that's OK.
- 3). Decide where to place your television, if applicable. If you have a wall-mounted television, you won't need to think much about it. However, if your TV needs something to sit on, place a dresser or another table or stand in a convenient location where you can see it from the bed. On the opposite wall from the bed works well or along the side wall nearest the person who watches the TV the most. Place it on a dresser taller than your bed so you can see it comfortably past your covers and feet.
- 4). Arrange your other furniture, such as dressers, chair or desk. If your dresser fits into a walk-in closet, that's a space-saving move. Place a chair or loveseat diagonally in a corner with a side table and lamp to create an ideal reading area. A desk under a window, especially one with a view, will make a pleasant work station. Consider the flow of your room before adding any additional furniture; leave 2 1/2 feet for pathways around your bed and to the closet and bathroom, if possible.
