How to Weld Duplex Stainless Steel
- 1). Place the two pieces that are to be welded into their desired position and clamp firmly into place. If needed, make a few spot welds on the materials to hold them in place.
- 2). Ground the welder to the materials or to a work bench with the alligator clip attached to the ground cable. Turn the weld machine on and set to the desired amperage.
- 3). Install the electrode into the alligator clip on the positive cable that is attached to the welding machine. Put on the welding helmet and insulated gloves.
- 4). Hold the electrode an 1/8 inch above the metals where they meet to begin the weld. An arc will form, which will create a weld pool. A weld pool is melted metal from both materials that has begun to mix.
- 5). Hold the electrode at a 15 degree angle to the metal and begin to move along the seam of the materials where they meet. Create a seam along the length of the materials until the weld is completed.
- 6). Allow the weld seam to cool. Clean the seam with a wire brush to remove any weld splatter and to help smooth the new weld.
