How to Extract Bulk Herbs
- 1). Wash the herbs if you are using fresh ones and chop them into small, manageable pieces. If you are using dried herbs, ensure the material is evenly ground and in powdered form.
- 2). Pour the chopped fresh or powdered dried herb into your glass jar. Be sure to leave enough room for the alcohol.
- 3). Pour the alcohol slowly into the jar until the herbs are completely covered. Once the herbs are covered, add an extra inch or two of additional liquid.
- 4). Seal the jar tightly and ensure that the liquid can't escape through leakage or evaporation. Store the jar in a dark, cool area inside a paper bag to further block the light.
- 5). Check the bottle everyday and give it a good shake to mix the ingredients. Let the bottle sit for at least two weeks and up to six weeks.
- 6). Prepare a new bottle for the final product by labeling it using your markers. When ready, pour the tincture liquid through a cheesecloth to strain out any remaining herb material, and pour it into your labeled jar or bottle.
- 7). Squeeze all of the liquid from the saturated herbs, extracting all of the juices. Close the storage container with a stopper or lid and store for later use.
