How to Test Your Home for Chlordane
- 1). Contact your nearest USDA partner institution. Generally, USDA partners are colleges and universities with agricultural research divisions. A complete, by-state list of USDA partners is available at USDA.gov.
- 2). Give your contact at the USDA partner institution your name, telephone number and street address. Most institutions will provide you with a soil testing kit at no cost to you.
- 3). Scoop the required amount of soil into the containers provided when the chlordane testing kit arrives. Take samples from all around the foundation of your home and label each sample according to location. Complete all the forms included with the sampling kit to ensure you receive a response regarding chlordane in your home.
- 4). Return the soil samples to the partner institution according to their preferred method. Some institutions require you hand-carry the soil samples to their laboratories, while others will pay return postage. Texas A&M University is one institution that provides a postage-paid return envelope with the soil sampling kit.
