As this picture of ragged robin shows, this pink flower truly does have a "ragged" look about it....

The plant shown in the photo above is ragged robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi). Although indigenous to Europe, ragged robin has naturalized as a wildflower in the northeastern U.S.

Indeed, indigenous, or "native" plants are by no means one and the same thing as "wildflowers," although the terms are loosely used interchangeably. Browse my photo gallery of types of wildflowers for other examples.
