How to Decorate With a Pastel Couch
- 1). Paint the walls. Choosing a wall color that works around a pastel couch is simpler than it sounds. You have the option of sticking within a pastel palette, expanding to include complementary bolder colors, or simply going with a plain white that can be accessorized with paintings and wall hangings. Avoid painting the walls in the exact same shade as the pastel couch -- this can easily overwhelm the room with that particular color.
- 2). Hang sheer curtains. In keeping with a light and airy feel for the room, window sheers can be placed on the windows. These are just like normal drapes or curtains, but they are sheer and allow light to pass through. White, ivory or light yellow sheers are ideal for a pastel room that is gender neutral. However, for a more feminine touch, go with a light pink or a soft blue. If you desire more privacy than sheers allow, install a window shade inside the window well that can be pulled down when you need to block the view.
- 3). Hang paintings around the room. Since our theme is light and airy, select prints that bring the outdoors in while sticking with your pastel color scheme. Outdoor scenes, paintings of birds or even old-fashioned embroidery samplers within this color scheme are ideal for wall hangings.
- 4). Place a rug under the couch. To create a conversation area around the pastel couch, place a large rug underneath it. This rug should extend enough to group two chairs around the couch. If you do not have a rug this large, place the one you have in front of the couch and put a coffee table on top of it to complete the effect.
- 5). Put throw pillows on the couch. Designers bring a whole design theme together typically with the use of decorating accessories. Throw pillows are an ideal means to accomplish this end. Choose fabrics and designs that bring to mind your design idea and place them on the couch. Put a small basket on one end of the couch to place the throw pillows in when the couch is in use.
