How to Prevent Apple Slices From Turning Black

Combine 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1/2 gallon of cool water in a large mixing bowl. - 2). Drop the apple slices into the diluted lemon juice immediately after slicing them. Allow the last apple slices to be placed in the lemon juice solution to soak for a few minutes.
- 3). Place a colander in the kitchen sink and empty the bowl of apple slices and lemon juice solution into the colander. Allow the liquid to drain from the colander.
- 4). Empty the colander of apple slices onto a clean kitchen towel. Spread the apple slices into a single layer. Lay a second towel over the apples and gently press down to absorb remaining lemon juice.
- 1). Fill a large mixing bowl with 1/2 gallon of cool water. Stir in 1/2 tsp. ascorbic acid powder until the powder is dissolved.
- 2). Soak the sliced apples in the ascorbic acid mixture for a few minutes to avoid discoloration on the apple slices.

Drain the apples into a colander before spreading them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat the apple slices dry to remove excess moisture.
