How to Hide Gaps in Countertops

104 9
  • 1). Choose a silicone caulk that will match the color of your countertop. Caulk comes in over 100 colors, so ask at local hardware stores to see what colors they offer. If you cannot find a color to match, you can use white caulk and paint over it.

  • 2). Fill a small bucket halfway with warm water and clean the countertop surface with a sponge. Wipe the surface with a dry towel.

  • 3). Remove old caulk using a utility knife to scrape it away. Be careful not to scratch the countertop.

  • 4). Hold your caulk gun or tube at a 45-degree angle and apply an even coat of caulk in the gap so that it touches both surfaces. Be thorough when applying caulk, but press the trigger lightly to avoid over-applying caulk. Too much caulk will ruin the look of the countertop. If you get too much, let it dry, remove the excess with a utility knife and reapply.

  • 5). Use a caulk smoother to even the finish so that the caulk is level with your countertop.

  • 6). Repeat with all the gaps in your countertop.
