The Speechless One Who Had
As most households the radiance of the season was coming into the home.
People were rushing and chatting about the upcoming holiday.
There sitting on the floor was a child unmoved by the festivities.
This child was watching and smiling but never interacting within the course of others events.
Once and awhile the child grandmother would ask the child, "So what do you want for Christmas?" The child would look at her never replying back of any desire.
The child situation became more intense as Christmas approach.
The grandmother takes closer interest into the silence and uninvolved actions of the child.
The grandmother giving catalogues of toys for the child to look at as he maintain seated on the floor.
The child looking about at the commotion of others rather then the items contained in the book.
Finally the grandmother asking the child, "Don't you want a gift for Christmas?""What do you want?" I was that child.
The problem was I did not understand the request.
My grandmother has always given me things.
She feed me each day and gave surprises.
I did not reply to my grandmother because I was waiting to see the gift.
She gave me all my gifts.
The ideal of selecting a gift I had not encountered or had desire.
The problem that season was solved through my interest in a plane on television.
My grandmother said, "Oh, you like the plane?" I nodded my head returning back to watch the plane climb into the sky.
The night of that Christmas we were rushed to our beds after listening to a radio broadcast of Santa traveling destinations.
The next day I watched as everyone ran to the tree and ripped open their gift.
Finally my grandmother carrying a gift gave it to me.
Once again one step short of a ladder I place the gift on the floor.
I looked at the others gifts as they revealed from the paper some item.
My grandmother opened my gift taking out a toy plane.
She placed the batteries inside and threw the switch making the plane move across the floor.
She told me the toy was mine.
I found more interest in my box of fruits and nuts then the plane.
We did come to one accord about the plane.
On occasion I would turn the switch and walk away.
I would push without turning the switch and go.
My gift to you and I hope you will understand its presentation.
The gift of things had and the new one given is my Merry Christmas to you.
And with the thought is my Good Night.
