Dimensions of Arundo Bassoon Reeds
- Red color-coded Arundo bassoon reeds measure 0.34 (all sizes rounded to two decimal points) inches in diameter at the throat -- the thinnest section, located in the center of the reed. At the large, bristled tip, they measure 0.52 inches, and at the belly -- the opposite end to the tip -- they measure 0.39 inches. Green Arundo reeds measure 0.32 inches at the throat, 0.41 inches at the belly and 0.55 inches at the tip. Purple color-coded reeds measure 0.34 inches at the throat, 0.43 inches at the belly and 0.57 at the tip.
- Brown reeds have tips measuring 0.6 inches, which put them amongst the largest-tipped reeds available from Arundo. The throats of brown reeds measure 0.34 inches -- the same as the red reed -- and the belly measures 0.4 inches. Orange reeds have similar dimensions to purple reeds, measuring 0.34 inches at the throat and 0.57 inches at the tip. The only difference between these reeds in their dimensions lies in the belly, which on orange reeds has a 0.41-inch diameter. Each of the color codes represents a different shape, evident in the minor differences in the measurements of the three key areas.
- Blue Arundo reeds have the largest throat of all of the colors, measuring 0.35 inches, and their belly is also quite large, measuring 0.44 inches in diameter. The tip of blue color-coded reeds has the same size as that of the brown reed, measuring 0.6 inches. Yellow reeds measure 0.34 inches at the throat, and 0.4 inches at the belly. The tip of yellow reeds measures 0.58 inches.
- Black reeds have the largest tips of all the Arundo reeds, measuring 0.61 inches. These reeds also feature one of the smallest throat sizes available, measuring only 0.33 inches. The belly of black color-coded reeds measures 0.42 inches. White reeds have a tip measuring 0.57 inches and a throat measuring 0.33 inches. The belly of the white reed is the largest available, measuring a little more than 0.44 inches in diameter.
