How to Design a Door Stop

    • 1). Cut a piece of fabric large enough to wrap a garden brick like a present.

    • 2). Lay the fabric, dull side up, on a table. Set the garden brick in the center of the fabric.

    • 3). Wrap the brick just like you'd wrap a present, securing the edges with hot glue. Fold the top and bottom edges of the fabric over first, holding them in place with a line of hot glue. Turn the brick so you can work with one end. Press the top of the fabric down against the end of the brick and fold the sides in, forming a fabric triangle. Fold the triangle up and hot glue in place. Repeat with the second end. Turn the brick so that the seam is on the bottom and place in front of your door to hold it open.

    • 1). Hold your non-dominant hand with your fingers together and pointing toward your dominant hand. Leave 12 inches of rope free. Wrap the rope at this point three times around all four of your fingers. Remove the rope, preserving the loops. Pass the end through the center of these loops and then wrap loosely three times around the middle of them. Pass the end from the bottom of these loops up through them and to the outside at the top of the knot. Wrap the end of the rope three times around the center loops. Tie a knot in the end of the rope, but do not pull tight yet. This is a monkey's fist knot.

    • 2). Make a 2-inch slit in the tennis ball. Use a funnel to fill the ball with 1 cup rice. This will be the weight for your door stop. Tape the opening closed with electrical tape.

    • 3). Insert the tennis ball into the center of the monkey's fist knot. Tighten the knot around the ball by pulling on each loop, one at a time. Continue in this manner until the knot is tight and neat. Cut the 12" length to just long enough to push under the nearest knot loop. Use the point of your scissors to push it into place. Repeat with the other end of the rope, leaving a 6-inch carrying loop. Spray paint the knot as desired.
