Friendship Tips - Dealing With a "Third Wheel"
A friend is a companion who you love and trust.
A friend is one with whom you will trust your life.
You are willing to stand with your friend and make sacrifices for your friend.
It is therefore critical that we choose our friends very carefully.
We want to know that our friends' character is equal to or better than our.
Our perspective friend's moral conduct is equal or better than our.
Remember, I am not talking about somebody you may hang out with from time to time.
And even there we must be careful because we could end up where we don't want to be.
If I am a person who doesn't smoke, do alcohol, marijuana, or drugs, I shouldn't choose friends who do these things.
There is an old saying that birds of a feather flocks together.
A person is known by the company he keeps.
So choosing friends should be done very carefully.
Sometimes people are not who they appear to be.
Some will smile in your face, and then stab you in the back.
Their motives maybe to get in close so that they can hurt you.
They may be jealous of you and want to obtain what you have.
If you have money, they may be there just for the money, or what they can gain from you.
They are only concerned about their self-interest.
Everyday we come in contact with pretenders, people who pretend to be another person.
Some appear to have split personalities.
When you get to know them they are completely the opposite of who you thought they were.
They have gotten very good at disguising themselves, like rattlesnakes in their habitat.
In the Bible in 1 Samuel 18, Jonathan and David were true friends.
They made a covenant, agreement, to basically lay down their lives for each other.
How many of us would be willing to do that? Some gang members will be willing, but this is senseless.
Jonathan even went against his father, King Saul, to protect his friend.
There was nothing that he and David wouldn't do for each other.
He encouraged David and David encouraged him.
This is the kind of friendship that we ought to seek.
Choosing a friend wisely is not saying that you are better than someone else.
It is saying that you value friendship that mutually benefit both individuals.
You are seeking a friendship that is real and lasting.
However, there is only one friendship that everyone can have that will last eternally and that is with Jesus Christ! He called us friends before we knew Him.
