How to Clean Tarnished Silver with Common Household Products
- 1). Dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a stainless steel pan filled with water. Place aluminum foil in the bottom of pan and place the tarnished silver on top of the foil. Heat the pan on the stove top, without boiling, and the tarnish will disappear.
- 2). Try dissolving Biz, a laundry stain fighter, in warm water and soak the tarnished silver.
- 3). If you want to polish some silver pieces, toothpaste has been rumored to work also.
- 4). A little bit of ketchup is handy to have around for that tarnished silver. The acid in the tomatoes will remove the tarnish. If the item is really dark, soaking it for about 15 minutes can remove the built up tarnish. That would take quite a bit of ketchup though.
- 5). Make a paste out of cream of tartar and clean the silver.
- 6). Mix two tablespoons of salt with one tablespoon of lemon juice. Rub the paste into the silver and remove with a dry cloth.
