How to Remove Stains From Clothes That Ran in the Wash
- 1). Fill your kitchen sink with very hot water. Add half cup heavy-duty liquid detergent and half cup oxygenated stain remover or color-safe bleach. Add your dark or colored clothing that has stains on it.
- 2). Soak your clothing for 30 minutes to one hour. Drain the water, rinse the clothing, wring out and place in the washer. Run through a regular cycle.
- 3). Fill your kitchen sink with very hot water as directed in step 1. Add half cup liquid detergent and chlorine bleach. Place your previously white clothing in the sink.
- 4). Soak your clothing for 15 minutes, then rinse and wash in your washing machine. The Iowa State University Extension Office says that soaking your clothes longer than 15 minutes will weaken the fabric and isn't likely to remove more dye.
