What to Use in Washing a Wooden Deck
- Pressure washers are devices that provide a high intensity spray of water. They can be used with or without chemical cleansers, and they get the cleaning done quickly. However, if not used correctly, or if the water pressure is too high, the wooden surface may be damaged.
- Commercial deck bleaches are available from many retailers. Deck bleaches may be either chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach. Chlorine bleach is a harsh chemical. Oxygen bleach is nontoxic. Substantial scrubbing using a pole-mounted scrub brush is required to get the job done.
- Biodegradable chemical cleaners are designed for cleaning wooden decks. The cleaner is mixed with water and sprayed onto the deck surface and allowed to soak. The deck is then scrubbed with a pole-mounted scrub brush.
