How to Get an Overflowed Toilet Down

    • 1). Wear rubber or rubber-coated work gloves to keep hands dry and away from direct contact with waste.

    • 2). Clean overflowed water and waste off the floor by wiping it up with cleaning rags. Once the moisture and waste is removed, spray disinfectant over the floor and toilet exterior. Dry these surfaces with a clean cloth.

    • 3). Dip a disposable plastic cup into the toilet bowl to remove water. Empty the cup into a bucket until the water level in the toilet is back to normal.

    • 4). Reach into the toilet with rubber glove-covered hands. Pull out toilet paper and any other clog-causing materials to free the drainage area in the toilet bowl.

    • 5). Plunge the toilet with a toilet plunger to force any remaining clog material to move through the toilet. If the toilet water drains out of the bowl after you plunge the toilet, the clog has been removed. Repeat this step two or three more times to remove the clog.
