How to Disable Auto Launch in Flash Drives
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run" (Windows XP users) or "Start Search" (Windows Vista users).
- 2). Type "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the registry. Click the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder on the left panel and click "System." Click "CurrentControlSet" and click "Services." Click "CDRom." Right-click "Autorun" on the right panel and click "Modify." Type "0" ("Zero" on the "Value Data" box and click "OK." This prevents your flash drive from automatically launching when you insert it into your computer
- 3). Click the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder on the left panel and click "Software." Click "Microsoft" and click "Windows." Click "CurrentVersion" and click "Policies." Click "Explorer."
- 4). Right-click "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" on the right panel and click "Modify." Type "B5" on the "Value Data" box and select the "Hexadecimal" check box. Click "OK" to save the changes.
- 5). Click "File" and click "Exit" to close the registry. Restart your computer. Connect your flash drive to the USB port. It no longer launches automatically.
