CX5400 Printer Problems

104 219

    Setup

    • Two problems you may encounter after first installing your CX5400 are loose connections and improperly installed drivers. If your computer does not recognize the device when you attempt to print or the power LED remains dark, check the cabling on the rear of the printer and confirm that the plugs are properly seated; perform a similar check on the computer's USB port and the electrical outlet you are using to power the printer. If available, try using a different outlet and computer in order to confirm that the problem lies with the printer.
If the printer appears operational but you are unable to get it to work with your computer, you may need to reinstall the print drivers. Begin by uninstalling the drivers; open the "Start" menu and locate the icon labeled "My Computer." Right-click on the icon and select the entry labeled "Properties." Navigate to the "Hardware" tab and select the option labeled "Device Manager." Expand the listing labeled "Imaging Devices" and look for an entry labeled "EPSON Stylus CX5400." If you see a question mark or exclamation point next to the name, right-click on the entry and select "Uninstall." Disconnect the printer from the computer and open the uninstaller application (found in the "All Programs" section of the "Start" menu, in the folder labeled "EPSON Start Panel"). Follow the onscreen instructions.
After you have removed the installed drivers, download the latest version of the installation application from the Epson website (see "Additional Resources," below). Launch the application and follow the onscreen instructions.

    Operation

    • If your CX5400 fails to perform a print operation, check the printer's display panel to help diagnose the problem; when possible, it will display an error message to help direct you. If the display panel indicates a printer jam, press the "Color Copy" button and the printer will try to clear the jam itself; if this fails, you will have to clear the jam manually (turn off the printer, raise the scanning unit and pull out the paper). The best way to avoid paper jams is to abide by the paper feeder's listed maximum capacity of roughly 150 sheets of plain paper.
Another common problem is improperly installed or misaligned print cartridges. To check that your cartridges are installed properly, press the "Menu" button until the "Change Cartridges" entry appears in the control panel. Press "Color Copy" and lift the scanning unit. You may now examine the print head; pinch the tabs at each end of the ink cartridges to remove them. Reinstall the cartridges to confirm that all are fully seated.
To align the print cartridges, press the "Menu" button until "Head Alignment" appears and select "Color Copy" confirm; the printer will generate a test page. Select the numbered entries with the most closely aligned markings and the least amount of overlap, and use the "+" and "-" buttons to enter your selections. Press "Color Copy" to confirm your selection and repeat as necessary.
