How to Clean Mold in the Walls
- 1). Seal off the room from the rest of the house by taping plastic sheets over all door ways and openings. Cover all air vents and make sure the central air is shut off.
- 2). Open any windows and take out the screens. If you have a fan set it up so that it is blowing out the window.
- 3). Place an air purifier in the middle of the room if possible.
- 4). Remove any paneling with a crowbar or similar tool to pry the paneling off the walls.
- 5). Place any moldy materials, such as paneling, in heavy-duty trash bags and seal closed.
- 6). If the mold growth is dry, lightly moisturize with water. This will help prevent airborne spores from spreading when you start scrubbing.
- 7). Apply a soap and water mixture to all surrounding areas where the mold is, even if the areas appear to be clean. Mold growth can be invisible to the naked eye.
- 8). Apply alcohol, bleach or hydrogen peroxide to the areas in question. This should help ensure that all the mold has been neutralized.
- 9). Let the area dry and remove all the materials through the open window to prevent spreading the mold to the rest of your house.
