    • 1). Pour oxygen bleach powder into a bucket of warm water. You will want the bleach to dissolve completely in the water, and you should not need more than 1 cup; read the manufacturer's instructions for recommended amounts. Oxygen bleach is safe, natural and provides the most effective cleaning for grout by releasing oxygen ions and dissolving all impurities.

    • 2). Pour the oxygen bleach over the tile floor, allowing it settle into the grout between the tiles. Make sure that every inch of grout receives exposure to the oxygen bleach. The liquid will begin to absorb into the porous material and, after a few seconds, you should see it begin to bubble.

    • 3). Walk away from the room and return in about 15 minutes. Place your finger over a piece of grout and press it slightly. If it feels as though the grout as completely absorbed the bleach solution, repeat Steps 1 and 2 to apply an additional coat. Come back again 15 minutes later and feel the surface again.

    • 4). Scrub the grout with a toothbrush or scrubbing brush. The amount of time that you should wait depends on the dirtiness of the grout. For a routine cleaning, you can scrub the grout 30 minutes after applying the bleach. If the grout appears especially dirty or dingy, you may want to wait a couple of hours. The oxygen ions will continue to work for up to six hours.

    • 5). Rinse the grout with warm water and allow it to dry. To dry the room faster, wipe up the surface liquid with towels, then open a window and turn on a fan nearby. For simple, routine cleanings in the future, soak the grout with the bleach solution and avoid scrubbing altogether. Only scrub to remove set-in stains.
